As negotiators and experts prepare to enter the high level segment of the 19th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP19), which opened in Warsaw this week, the mood among African delegates here is one of confidence and determination to defend the continent’s interest at all costs.
It is evident that our continent’s deep need to build effective coping mechanisms and robust adaptive capacities is not being given the attention it deserves by those who have emitted the GHGs the most.
This conference comes at an opportune time since it provides us with a common forum for discussions, ahead of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 19) to be held in Poland, next month.
