First of all I would like to thank and appreciate IPCC for such informative and evidence based report on climate change in issues in the world. In my view, the report has cleared most confusions and illusions on climate change issues.
The fifth assessment report (AR5) of IPCC is not region specific as such rather it is more comprehensive global report on climate change based on scientific research advances made after fourth assessment report. The report presents additional evidences for the claim that climate is changing in the world and future scenarios. It also about general adaption and mitigation actions needed to take in order to cope with changing climate. I am not sure but according to the synthesis report, the objectives of the working groups of IPCC were not to give detailed information on climate change on specific continent like Africa or any other continent. If that was the case, AR5 is not expected to give detailed report on climate change in Africa. Thus, even if the report is not continent specific, the AR5 is relevant and important to Africa. The general climate change scenarios indicated in the report will most likely to work for Africa. moreover, the document can be used to convince policy, decision makers and public in Africa that climate change is now a proved phenomenon and it is a threat for the survival of humanity unless immediate remedial action is taken. It can be used as a basis for further research on refining climate change scenarios in Africa, also can serve as a guide for preparation of mitigation and adaptation action plan and implementation in response to climate change in Africa.
Thus, in my view, using AR5 as a basis and in consultation with IPCC expertise and regional professionals, integrated and coordinated research and action on climate change in Africa are very important and an urgent issue. In this regard, I believe that ACPC should play a leadership role in Africa’s response to climate change.

However, the big issue for Africa is how do we take the global information provided by the AR5, distill it at national and regional scales, and use it to inform appropriate policies and strategies that not only reflect the realities of climate change in Africa but seek to build futures that are based on these realities? For his I propose we need to support forums that bring together important policy players in African governments, civil society and SMMEsectors to produc policy frameworks and lay the ground for a response that harnesses the creativity of African communities and entreprenuers to respond to climate change

What do we consider as being 'sufficient' ? More the information and knowledge available, the better informed are we, and the better our response. AR5 provides more information compared to AR4, but there is still lots of gaps in our knowledge, and much room for improvement. Having said that, Africa must now build its capacity to more efficiently downscale this global knowledge to regional, national and subnational levels for optimum benefits to all.
It is important that information acquired is shared at the regional and even county levels so that it can be useful. If this is done, there will be so much knowledge amongst individual citizens and this will improve findings which in turn will enable the panel come up with a more comprehensive and all-inclusive report.
